Something just rubbed me the wrong way about Witch’s Pranks: Frog’s Fortune Collector’s Edition.  Other than the fact that I’m tired of seeing point-n-click adventures marketed as hidden object game, there’s nothing I can really point to and call the reason for disliking the game, but it just didn’t work for me.

This here was the closest thing I encountered to a hidden object scene, and once you found all the gem pieces, if you placed them kind of close to the right spot on the book cover, they just clicked into place.  When I say “close to” I pretty much mean, on the correct quarter or so, which pretty much made the puzzle aspect of it a whole lot less puzzle-y. In fact, most of the puzzles I encountered gave no explanation of what you were intended to do without clicking on what looked suspiciously like a hint button. I feel like some explanation of is absolutely necessary, especially if the target audience is, as it appears to be, children.

Casual games can be weird like that.  A lot of them look and play like games designed for children.  However, everything about Witch’s Pranks: Frog’s Fortune reeked of a pre-teen target audience except the actual clarity of play. And the dead dog right at the beginning. Oops.

Maybe on another day, this game would have scratched an itch and I would have walked away thinking it wasn’t bad.  As it is, it barely even qualifies as a Halloween-esque comedy, rather, it’s a sad excuse to rework some fairy tales and toss out some cutesy-creepy graphics.  Not worth anywhere close to $7, in my opinion.
