Hammer Heads Deluxe is another one of those games you never knew you wanted to play. But it definitely fits a niche – the niche of wanting to smash things with a hammer. This game is pretty much whack-a-mole with garden gnomes.
There’s a 25-level classic mode that you need to complete before unlocking the endless mode. Each level is divided into multiple waves, and completing a level unlocks a new component of the game that changes up the game play just a little.
The only challenge in the early levels is how fast you can break things. However, the further you go, the harder it gets. Starting at level six, you can access the shop every two levels – provided you hit it with the hammer when it appears.
You can purchase items that restore health, increase your health capacity, and that increase your hammer’s power or speed. Trust me when I say you will want to upgrade your hammer early and often.
The game allows a permanent save after every fifth level, and there are in-game achievements, called trophies, for the completionists. Hammer Heads Deluxe isn’t a game you’re going to lose your life to, but you may happily lose an afternoon.
