You are an employee of the Rusty Lake Hotel, and your job is to make sure the guests are happy.  Primarily, you make the guests happy by making them incredible dinners. In order to gather ingredients, you will have to solve a series of challenges in a room – once you enter, you won’t be able to leave until you get what you came for.

There is very little in the way of a direct story – however, if you’re the type to click on everything and read anything that’s readable, you’ll be able to put a lot of things together on your own.  You are likely to be a little horrified.  I’m fairly certain that’s the point.

Some of the puzzles require logic, and some seem to only require perseverance. A couple of times, I hit up against something that felt broken because in a few places, there are unclear prerequisites. I was a little irked that in order to get past a point I thought was permanently screwed up, I needed to reset the entire game – I would have preferred an option to room reset.  However, I now believe that you can’t break the main objectives in that way; however, I’m not certain if you can miss things that prevent you from getting the maximum number of stars by missing something you can’t get back to.

Since I’m not going to tell you much more, I’m instead going to point you to the developers website, where you can play the Cube Escape series (you should start with Seasons) for free – these are a series of short games leading up to Rusty Lake Hotel.  It shouldn’t take too long for you to figure out if your stomach is strong enough to solve your way through this rather dark series.
